Which to use as a core?

I have two fe distributor"s - # C7AF 12131-A / 12127 with a shaft DIA of .467. it is an Autolite. The other is a Motorcraft # D8TE 12131-AA / 12127 with a shaft DIA of .531. I thought all fe's were the .467. I'm going to use one as a core. Is one any better to hang on to than the other? Thanks Jeff

The D8 number is for a FET series engine, hd truck/industrial, not light duty. For example, 330, 361, 391. This won't fit a standard light duty (FE) block, without reaming out the dist. pilot bore in the block. Most of these had a governor control built in below the mechanical advance. You will notice the hd distributor uses a 5/16" oil pump drive shaft, while the light duty uses a 1/4" drive shaft

Thanks for the response. Interesting reading on FE ignition systems. I'm gonna file this for future use. Greg, you are right, It's for a FT engine (D8TE). I have a 391 short block in the garage. I checked it today, it fits. Looks different, shorter, more the size of the C7AE. Also no tachometer drive. I'll probably leave it with the 391,and turn in the C7AE as a core. (this isn't for a FE project , but a y-block). I'm thinking of cutting loose of some of this stuff, the 391 included, so I'll leave it together. Jeff
