Which thermostat control setting for electric fan?

Have an 8BA in my '36 and will use an electric fan; do I want on at 185 off at 170 or on at 200 off at 185 degrees? Got Skip Haney pumps and never goes over 180-85 on test stand.

Why not use one of the adjustable fan switches out there? Speedway has one that uses your electric temp gauge sending unit to activate the fan and it is adjustable.

I want a switch to turn my fan on after the temp gets past the normal running temp so that fan doesn't run all the time. The on-off differential is pretty much non adjustable, so you want to be able to move that on-off range to turn the fan on before the engine gets too hot, yet turn the fan off at at hotter temp than the engine normally runs. Adjustable switches allow you this freedom to select the range you want.

Got a credit with Ron Francis Wires, his stuff is non-adjustable; I think I will go with the 185-170 kit. Thanks for responding.

You should be able to get an adjustable swich. Aussie company here Davies-Craig does them, has a probe you push between the fins if the radiator. You should get something easy in the U.S.

It sounds like he wants/needs to use his credit w/Ron Francis.

There are numerous adjustable switches in the $35-80 range. I don't know what the fan is, but my experience with the less expensive fans is that they don't last long. Using a switch that doesn't cut out until 170 is going to run the fan all the time and shorten the fan life, especially in summer NV weather. Using a switch that cuts out just above running temp would be a better choice in my opinion.

At least put a 3-way switch on it so it can run automatically, manually, or off when not needed.

An electric fan on an old Ford looks real stupid to me. Buy a copper radiator and run a mechanical fan. You should have no problems with Skips pumps.
