Where does wheel contact drum?

First post here, if looking at used wheels is there an easy way to tell the 1928 wheel from the rest of them?
Thanks,
Dirk

If you're asking how do I tell an AR wheel from a leter '28 or '29 A wheel, the best way is to put them along side each other and look at the width of the centre where the spokes are welded on. The AR wheel is narrower there. I don't have a measurement but I'm sure others will. Once you familiarise yourself with the difference, you'll be able to tell them apart at a glance.
As for telling a '28 wheel from a '30 or '31, look at the diameter of the hole in the middle where the hub cap goes and the edge of the rim.

I don't have any pictures of the difference, but I know they have been posted here, and a search for "AR PICTURE" or something like that should turn them up.

I can tell by looking at them, as the early wheel is at least 1/4" narrower and has a slightly different shape to the center hub area. It has a sharp line rather than a more gentle curve. Wish I had pictures. I'll bet the RESTORATION STANDARDS book has pictures.

The early "AR" wheel measures a little over 1.10 inches and the later wheel measures 1.46 rough measurements because of the redii.

Mount a late wheel on an early drum, only the outer edge will touch, without support under the lug nuts

This is some good info! I always thought the AR wheels were only used on the left hand parking brake cars! If I am looking at this right our 6-21-28 with center brake handle has AR wheels? Am I right?
