where do I go - for 9N-2N-8N discusion oil issues

someone rebuilt this 2N motor and didn't redo the oil pump - had no oild pressure - checked ALL the lines then went after the pump - it will not pull light oil off or on the motor - we pulled the crank gear and ran it with a drill with a magnet dilly we got at harbor frieght....it will blow oil out of the bowl of oil running backwards but won't pull up through the tube.....we've had it apart and the shafts seems to be close enough in tolerences according to the book - not sure about the gear.....get a new oil pump kit?

That pump is almost the same as a 60 hp pump, the housing is the main cap ---if you want to be cheap flip the gears over

Are there grooves worn into the flat plate that has the pickup? --surface it smooth

How much side clearance do you have? ---I would get new gears --then using a srraight edge check the side clearance ---to reduce that the housing in the cap needs machined ---if either the cover or the housing surface is not flat you will have suction air leaks, a small amount of anerobic sealer( like locktite 574) carefully used can fix minor imperfections.

Close attention to sealing, and clearances got me a 60 hp with 15lbs hot oil pressure at slow idle --all NOS oil pump gears.

Having worked on tractors all my life I found out the hard way, when you do an N series engine you replace the body. The dealer here showed me that, evidently when they were new the quality control on the machining was such that the bearing cap was replaceable. When he did engines that was done without exception. He claimed a couple of thousandths made a difference,he had learned when working on them when new.The last N series engine I did I bought the parts from his son. When I got the box I found an oil pump body in it.I hadn't asked for it,but as he put it,you ain't goin out the door without it.The machine shop I use won't spend five minutes fooling with a used one. They just buy them too. They used to be cheap,as the machine shop owner put it,they cost 15 minutes of our time.
