Where are the parts?

I was out of the hobby since the 1980's but since inheriting my Dad's car I'm back in it again. He had hoarded several parts which I really don't need but not in a hurry to get rid of either. Yes, I have noticed quite a change in parts supply and also prices but I expected that going in. I have gained a wealth of knowledge on this site and after a couple of years I now know several guys who can help me find parts I need.

In the last two years in Northern CA I've rounded up a ton of parts..the best score was on craigslist,a burned chassis with a fresh engine, mitchell od,f100 steering box rebuilt trans and rear end with cast iron drums and fresh brakes for 1500.00..it was in a house fire.I picked up a '29 engine with a fresh rebuild with a bad center main bearing for 2 hours of welding,a complete B engine for 100 bucks through the club and 2 engines,a front and rear axle for free through a friend..The stuff is out there and you can still find it cheap, sheet metal and complete bodies are getting spendy however..

We can only dream of finding that sort of stuff. It's just not about. F100 steering box - no such thing here unless you are happy to sit on the wrong side of the car. Buying second hand stuff from this distance is more than risky and having someone over there look at it for me only leads to them buying it if it is OK and leaving me out.
You guys don't know how easy you have it, even with all these comments about how hard it is to get stuff now.

I've found and bought a lot of rare model A parts on eBay. Berts in dDenver is probably one of the best places to buy model A parts . I have bought sand blasted perfectly straight wheels from them . I would rather have the real model A wheels from Berts than the expensive repro model A wheels any day . Berts probably has the largest collection of original and new old stock model A parts in the world . Phone 800-321-1931 and talk to Steve Becker .

I agree Berts is probably the best place to buy both used and new parts. They know the business and do have many used parts. Yes you may pay a little be more for a used part with them but you know you will get - a quality part. You may not get the best part on eBay but that also it a place where you could find a used part. I have purchased parts from both places and it works well. And of course you have all the other quality vendors that are good options also.

I've been unloading parts for the last couple of years to help finance my 1929 standard coupe project . I sold a lot of sheet metal 1928 - 1931 and still have some and a ton of small parts and heavy iron / wheels / frames / engine blocks / brake parts and so on I quit advertising . Shipping was a major headache and driving to town to mail small parts was a 24 mile round trip not worth a $20 box of parts . It was fun having folks drive all the way out here to haggle with me . But sometimes I bought more than I sold once I get this mess sorted out I'll try selling again .
