When did Ford switch 6 to 12v ?

Yep, my first car, a 55, was six volt. Always fun as a kid jumping it off with all the more modern 12 volt cars. :)

my Dad had a 55 Town Sedan 6 volt, Beaudry Ford in Atlanta changed it over to 12 volts before it was 6 months old, because my Dad complained about hard starting

Best thing was in a pinch if you only had one wire, or a length of bendable steel, you could put the bumpers together and still start the car!

I wonder if they left the 6 volt starter in the car. I switched an old Allis Chalmers tractor to 12 volts but kept the 6 volt starter. This was a common practice and in 25+ Years it was the best starting tractor in the dead of winter.
