When converting from 6 Volts to 12 volts

Do you still Pos. ground? A friend as me that question and I said I have never don't that before going from 6 Volts to 12 volts.

Like 19Fordy said. There is a voltage drop you can use for the gauges. You can isolate them and wire them anyway you want.
Starter can remain as is. I did snap a couple of bendix springs in mine from the extra zap but I think that may have happened twice in 14 years. Make sure that the small bracket that goes between the starter and pan bolt is in place or the added torque will cause issues.
Reliving and enjoying the adventure with you...lol

Take a look at page #53, " 6 volt to 12 volt conversion" and beyond in the Techno pdf linked in my signature

Yea, the old open spring Bendix design didn't hack it well with twice the electrical pressure. There are modern bendix conversions and there are little high torque starter conversions available to take care of that problem if needed. Starters can have new 12-volt field coils installed as well. Change all the 1154 to 1157 bulbs. The little bulbs in the instrument panel are the hardest ones to get to. The rest all have alternatives for the most part. Add a 1.3 to 1,5 ohm ballast resister to the coil primary input line and it's good to go. Radios can always be a bugger but many folks have the innards removed and substituted for a modern 12-volt set up. The horn can be another problematic item but there are ways to get around the horn and electric wipers as well, if so equipped.
