Wheel Torque

Just use a lug wrench, lean on it and push untill your body tells you to say ugghh. That should be good enough. Now, its not the same, if your an olympic power lifter, you may just want to get them snug lol. But if you have a '30 or '31 you want to get an old dish rag, or maybe two, and rap them around the end of the lug wrench your going to use. And then duct tape around the rags. Do this the whole length of the lug wrench arm. this will keep the lug wrench from chipping up the paint on the wheels.

If you use the original lug wrench and pull up with you legs then you will be just right.

Remember you always pull up with your legs to loosen or tighten the lug nuts.

If you get out a torque wrench then you are doing it wrong.

Do you need to keep you thumb UNDER the wrench to avoid a broken wrist if the wheel starts suddenly??

55 -60 lbs. do one with the lug-wrench and then compare it with your torque wrench and then you will never need the torque wrench again for this job

Thanks Guys, I was just checking a friend that has a model A said he torque's his wheels to 120 foot pounds. I recomended he cut his torque in half.

I used to maintain a mans 29 pickup for a few years. He read here on the Fordbarn of somebody who tightened to 100 foot pounds. He brought the truck to me with loose wheels,he had tightened them as told and every stud Mae Wested. That was when I got the job of maintaining his truck. We thought about it for a day or two,and then went to cast drums, seeing as how the drums had to come off anyway, then new linings, tracks, pins, and because he had a crippling problem in his legs,Teds floaters. So,his near disaster turned out to be a good thing for him.

and after you've tightened them, check them after 50 miles or so and you may be surprised that you can tighten them a further smidgin.
