wheel paint

Rattle can paint is crap. I used it to touch up the black mudguards on my Phaeton. Within a year, it had gone very grey and dull. I have wheels on the P/U that were powder coated. They faded too. I suggest using a good automotive paint if you want them to stay looking good.

Like captndan posted get a good paint shop to mix the color you want and load it in an aerosol can. It is the same quality paint you would buy for a spray gun.

They now offer a two part paint in a can. There is a way to punch thru from the top to the bottom to mix the two. The only down side is you have to use all the paint in a couple of days or the remainder will kick off in the can.

TCP Global is the best and they can mix any color. I used it on my '36 steering wheel and also applied a TCP clear coat. If funds are available,
the best thing to do is have the wheels powder coated. Cost is about $50
per wheel. Powder coating is worth the money. I have 15 year power coated wheels that look fresh and new!

The trouble seems to be getting the correct color in powder.

I needed proof too! Proof that spray can paint doesn't last. Rustoleum is probably the best. So why not go to Harbor Freight an get one of their $12 spray guns? I painted my car with one. The imperfections are due to the quality of the painter, not the equipment I used. There are plenty of painters on FB. If you have a question, Just ask!

Terry- Can you show us a photo of your $12. spray gun paint job ?

pre mixed rattle can is terrible paint. the harbor freight gun will give you results far and above a can. but will produce some bad traits over a large panel.

Sure! Go to my albums (In my profile, Click on my picture) It the Town Sedan. Chicle drab and Copra Drab. Sure It needed to be color sanded and buffed out. But i'm sure it would have needed it if it had been a $500, what's the name? Iwata. Whatever problems there were came from the painter (Me) not the gun.

$50 is cheap. I read of a local FordBarner that lives not too far from me, who had HIS '30 Ford rims powder coated and they charged him $1500 for four rims:eek::eek: at a 'Hot Rod' shop. Yikes.

I'm lucky, my uncle co-owns a powder coating company so I only have to pay for the wheels to be sandblasted.

There are ton's of videos online reviewing the purple gun.

Anyone know of a company selling rattle can paint like sour green apple color for wheel paint?
Hi I live in Johannesburg SA and was struggling to get the right match for my wheels which is Tacoma cream. After multiple attempts I came across the website of a company in your fine country, called modelawheelcolors.com. I imported the powder for powder coating and my wheels are perfect. If you want to give them an extra bit of gloss you could always then spraypaint them with a clear coat, but I haven't bothered. Hope this helps. This is the first time I have been a helper and not a helpee on the site, btw!
