What's your carb color?

I'm rebuilding my carb and it's time to paint it. I know most people paint them flat or low gloss black but mine was painted a steel color so it looked aluminum. Anybody out there paint their carb something other than black? I don't care if it's technically correct, just needs to look good.

It depends on what brand of carb it is. A zenith is black while the tillitsons and marvels are unpainted cast metal. Use the search feature to get the best paint for the zenith.

I used black epoxy rattle can paint on my zeniths. Let it cure for a week and it has help up great.

I painted mine semi gloss black and it looked great but the first time I took it apart to check something, gas killed it. I suggest a gas resistant paint.

I paint the cast iron carbs, such as Zenith or Simmons, either semi gloss or gloss black. I don't use flat black for anything. Flat black is near impossible to clean and doesn't look good to me. I leave the pot metal carbs natural. Its your carb so any color that you like should be good. Red is usually thought to represent fast as in the Winfield cast iron 7 to 1 heads or the Trojan dual updraft intake manifolds. Here is a picture of my red Trojan intake.

I stripped & cleaned a Zenith, while rinsing, it would rust right before my eyes!! Washed it with acetone, sprayed it with CAST BLAST, baked it in a LOW oven for 3 hours. Still looks good on Jack Scott's '29 CCPU & he says it's FAST!!

Lustrekote is the best choice for a zenith carb. It is fuel resistant and holds up well.

Thanks guys. Mine is Zenith but was paint a cast color by the guy who restored it (some 30yrs ago). I'm going out to the hobby store today. I liked the cast color but I may go gloss black just to be a bit more correct, though I'm not completely worried about correctness.
