What yr is this car?

Can some one assist with a year, model of this A?

I was told it was a 30 Murray, I have the fenders, cowl lights, radiator and radiator shell. In fact I have two, not sure which one goes with this car.

I would say early 31. It has the long splash apron and no indented firewall. If the motor is the original, the motor number will tell you. Lifting the body and finding the VIN is a great method.
How long had it been sitting outside. I'm glad you got it.

Looks for the motor number above the water inlet on the driver side of the motor, it could have the original motor in it. You are lucky as they used less wood in the body and it could be a Briggs or Murray body, it would take looking closer to tell. I would be happy to have found it!

It's a pretty messed up 1931 Slant windshield, most likely a Town Sedan. A very desirable model. It's the one without all the wood. But oh boy! That firewall! And why do some people leave the gas tanks open? And I'll bet that rear wheel is shot. And what was the purpose of leaving that window open?

This car is like Ripley's......50 yrs she has sat been in the family
I bought this car fresh out of high school, yr 1962, been in my possession ever sense. Sat under a barn for yrs, then I lost the barn storage, was forced to put it outside.
I have never heard it run, kids, pvt schools, other toys etc, the A took a back seat. Just now getting the interest to at least bring her back to running status. What I don't finish I am hoping my son will take over when I can no longer work on it.

my 31 S/W town sedan sans the holes looks just like that. fire wall can be fixed, go for it. also my tires are round black and hold air is the only difference. windows are down for the critter access. must be nice

I have another firewall that is just like new. Perfect condition. Gas cap is on tank you got to look close. Wheels are not A, thirty some things.
There is no glass in any of the doors, except one you see, that is plastic.

Edit: I take the glass statement 1/2 back LOL, this is a small piece of glass in the back door, only the top half. Not full glass.

It's a 31 Murray, but, just curious, if you have owned the car since 1962, how come you don't know the year of manufacture? No title? Forgot what you bought?

Ray,he is in N.H.There never was a title for that car,and one is not required now.Titles are a zero issue for us here on old cars.I'm just rubbing it in a little there.I realize it is hard to deal with the DMV in other states,so when I sell something out of state I register it here first to make it easier for the buyer to deal with his home state.Insurance is not required here,so it only costs $12.to get an antique registration. Also,I'm curious, what are you seeing in those pictures to make you think it is a Murray body?I just know some of the little differences on the slant cars,,but none of the ones I know are visible. The slant W/S cars are my favorites.I have a roadster, tudor, open pickup, and a closed cab pickup, and would rather have a slant sedan than any one of them.

Keith, I know the question wasn't directed to me but, The arched windows identify it as a Murray. At least I think they do. My Briggs are straight across the tops.

Upon careful looking, it appears it may have a "B:" distributor. I can't be sure. The wired B cap will fit onto A distributors. I don't have a good view of the advance mechanism.

Terry, the Murray-curved,and the Briggs-straight doortops only apply to the straight windshield Fordor cars.On the slants the doors are interchangable within all three makers,Briggs,Murray, and Ford.I was thinking along the lines of maybe he was seeing little details that I don't know about,it's nice to learn things.

I knew I wasn't on real hard ground with that answer. The SWs began a change in styling (no visor for one thing) where the old predictors just don't work anymore.

Fire wall has a lot of holes for sure but it will be much easier to fill the holes than to try and
put a new fire wall in and have it look right. It looks to be a nice car. How is the steel in the rest of the car? I can't tell by the photos but the cowls always like to rust out. Are the sun visor brackets in the car yet?

I have had three or four slant window cars restored one like yours and a blind back for
someone else 30 years ago.

Keith, thanks for the info about NH titles and for the reminder about SW models and doors. I had heard and forgotten both those facts. Gettin' old and dotty, I guess. As I said, I was just curious, and you satisfied my curiosity.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will take the # off the motor to see where it leads me.
I bought the car for the fun of it. FIgured it would be a fun project. Got into flying, then teaching flying, then kids then pvt school and the list goes on.
Now that I am 71 I decide to work on it. Little late but still going to be fun.

N.H.started issuing titles in 1964 for new vehicles. Then, when they became 10 years old they no longer needed the title. The requirement moved up every year. Then at some point they made that requirement 15 years. In 2015 they made the requirement for titles 2000 and up,forever. As of a few weeks ago now that is up in the air,the question arose as to why we needed that law.It was brought to the table too late to vote on,so it was tabled until there could be some more research done on it.Right now there is no title requirement for 99 and earlier.
