What year truck bed do I have?

I have a very good step side bed with a tag....
Tag numbers are - 178 F10GNDE7679 23
16 3 17 3B 14J G

This is the short, 54" wide bed. I bought it to go on my '55 f100 but the fenders are 3" too far out and 2" too high. It was just too good to pass up at a swap meet a couple years ago.

Does anyone know what year this is??
 
No picture, This has the gas cap coming out of the rear of the left fender. It is 54" wide, and the fenders are @ 2" higher than on a '55.
