Ok I know I have a 1948 and older flathead because if the attached bellhousing and the head water outlets and distributor set up.

What I wold like to know more about the engine I am working on.

On the front left side of the intake manafold the engine has been stamped "F20986".

On the top of the bellhousing are embossed what looks like "D26622 X15".

Below the above embossed number looks like there was two numbers or letters but the have been ground off by the previous owner and I can't ask him becsuse he has gone to the great rebuilder to do his work.

Thanks in advance..Joebeeker

What's the Bore? How many bolts hole om the distributior? What does the flywheel look like? Just a few clues. A pic might help.

Ron is right. A couple of pic will help. How many bolts hold the head on 21 or 24? Is there a letter in the center of the head like an A or 59AB? As Ron says, is there 2 bolts or 3 bolts that hold the dist on? If you have the head off, what is the bore 3-1/16 or 3-3/16? Does the oil pan rail on the block have two block plugs about the size of a nickel on each side or no block plugs. The answer to those guestions will help a lot. Walt
