Its a 21 stud alloy head commonly used on 32-36 engines, and I am sure with flat top pistons. My understanding is that the A2 means it is an aftermarmarket (sold over the counter)head and would not have come down the assembly line on a car. Is this NOS? I have the r/h side nos 40-6049 A2. I sure would like to have a 40-6050 A2.

this head started in April 36 with modified combustion chamber, and small openings for plugs, made in Canada. NOT for domed steel pistons

Ford script , I will look in the morn I may have what you want . I have 2 NOS alum left side heads ,1 of them came from NZ .Email me to remind me .
cheers

I checked this morn & the 2 NOS 21 stud alum heads , up to 36 style both left heads that I have are marked as such .
1 just has Made in Canada on it with 18 6050 written in some kind of etching pencil in one of the combustion chambers .
2nd head has in a raised block Mc 40 6050 A with a line under the small c
Both are for flat top pistons .I think I will just keep them for wall hangers , both are so beautiful.
Cheers
Tony

Please note that the V8 block chart has all the necessary information to get the correct type of cylinder heads and either ventilated or not ventilated block for your car. It is NOT correct for the block itself.

Terry, the small opening heads you are refering to are AR2 not A2. These A2 Made in Canada heads are 18mm large plug opening regular combustion flat piston heads. You are right about small plug hole and high compression but that is on the US AR2 heads out in July '35. I find the odd nos A2 heads in Canadian farm autions in Ford cardboard boxes and also in Ford nailed wooden crates. The cardboard boxes I think came out in the '50s as replacements. I quess that since we sometimes get frost in early october many got cracked heads before draining the water out in time. There is no US literature on these A2 heads that I have found. I even find them in US swap meets with the MADE IN CANADA buffed off. Canadian produced cars had some different part numbers through out the vehicle. I also have MADE IN CANADA heads with just the A (no 2) and the appear to be almost identical..
