what engine do i have?

How about more information ? V/8 . 6 , 4 . ford ,chevy , buick , year ? Don't like to kill time number researching , you can do that .
 
OF course i's not a Y-block if it's a 1971. So FE ,small block , big block like 460 . Is it a V-8 ? I can't see it though my key board .

a ford 302 looks like a chevy small block, small block fords have the dist in front of engine, the Y blocks have the dist in the back of engine

Show us a picture. How many bolts hold the valve covers on ? Where does the thermostat housing go in at , intake or block ? You sure don't want to release much information , so I'm just about done trying to help.
