What could this be?

I was changing the oil today, and this copper gizmo ran out with the oil. I looked at Lang's catalog under transmission parts and also under magneto parts, but I didn't find anything that looks like this. It's tubular copper, open on both ends, one end has a little outward flare, and it's about 7/16" long and 1/4" in diameter. Did something fall off inside, or is this just debris that might have fallen in long ago (that I'm lucky did not get caught up in the gears!)?

Oil line is steel. My guess is is just something that jumped in the transmission to keep you guessing years later.

Don't know why or how in got in the crankcase but, that Gizmo is an electrician's crimp-on ferrel. Used to take place of screw-on connectors that can take up too much space in electrical boxes. The flare on one end eases twisted wire insertion and provides a stop when positioned into the pliers prior to the crimp. Believe me!!

I think I dodged a bullet on this one. Who knows how long it's been in there, and how lucky I am that it didn't get caught up in anything.

My first thought was a crimped electrical connector also. I have seen them used on the mag connection. With the cover off, who knows what drops in. Thats why we stuff towels or rags in there to catch loose nuts and bolts, etc.. If caught in the gears, copper would have shredded, but steel would be much worse. Good thing you found it.
