What brakes are these?

Hoping someone can help ID these brakes. They're on a '58 9 inch. I'm assuming the drums are incorrect. There is a 1/4" spacer between the hub face and drum. Without the spacer the drum rubs on the backing plate. I'd like to find the correct drums so I can do away with the spacers but I have no idea what I should be looking for.

What is the rear assy on or out of? Brake shoe size? Brake drum size?

The wheel mount 5 x 4 1/2 or 5 X 5 in? It has self-adjusters which was only available on MERC-EDSEL that year unless they have been added (or the complete brake assy is from a later model).

Most likely it is a replacement drum (11") from a later model. It has D6OZ-1126-A stamped, is that correct?

Do you see any FORD or possibly BENDIX stamping on the backing plates?

It's 5x4-1/2. I haven't found any stamping in the plates. The drum has 37582 D60A 1126 BA. They measure 11x2-1/4" as do the shoes. It's anyone's guess what the axle originally came out of and I doubt they're the original brakes seeing how the rest of the car is a mishmosh of parts.

D6OZ-1126-BA ID's the drums as from a mid-late 70's TORINO/BIRD.

The machined drum surface is 2 1/4" deep, the same width of the shoe? And without the flange spacer, the drum hits the backing plate?

And I a$$-u-me there is no ID TAG on the rear assy as well?

Let me work on this.

BTW - A little something else to add to your anxiety. If using just a spacer at the axle flange, think of the drum distortion once the lug nuts are torqued. Spacers would have to be at the studs also.

It seems the drum is indeed incorrect. If you a$$-u-me the rear is from a mid-seventies intermediate body, and the brake shoe size is 11 x 2 ¼ “ (taking into consideration the backing plates are correct) -

ENG. NO. D6OA-1126-BA should convert to PN D6OZ 1126-B (SEE PN LIST ATTACH).

D6OZ 1126-A is for 11 x 2 ½ “ shoes (WAGON). The bell depth for the 11 x 2 ½ “ is 3.580in.

D6OZ 1126-B is for 11 x 2 ¼ “ shoes. The bell depth for the 11 X 2 ¼ “ shoes is 3.560in. There is your 1/4” depth difference.

Now all of this is from conjecture. One needs to know the backing plate I.D. and axle offset (donor vehicle info would be nice). I am using 1976 as this was the drum ID. I would think whoever did the changeover would have stayed in the same year(s).

RAYBESTOS has the drum(s). It (PREMIUM) is a quality part. You might want to find a take-off in a salvage yard to determine if this is correct before purchasing high dollar aftermarket drums.

Picture 1, self adjusting cable goes behind the springs.

Great info. I wasn't aware that was all available on Raybestos' website. As near as I can tell, the axle is a '58 with these brakes stuck on it. The drums clearly don't match the rest so I wouldn't use them to date the other parts. At least I have a bit of a start now, time to do more research...
