What are these heads?

Check these out. Heart shaped combustion chambers, 1932 part number on one of them, the other one blank.

What are they? These look like high compression chambers, but the compression ratio for 1932 was 5.5:1 as far as I know.

I read something somewhere about early 1932 heads having heart shaped chambers, but I don't understand how it's possible to have a chamber of this shape and size with *lower* compression than the ones we're used to.

Even though they appear smaller they actually CC at about 70-72cc, the change to the 33 Aluminum head cc's at about 57-62.....also the piston designed also changed from 32-34 at least!!!!

Thanks!

What about the piston design changed? Are you referring to dome vs. flat top?

If I used these, I would be putting them on a 1936 engine that already had cast iron replacement heads and flat top pistons. Do you know what the original combustion chamber size was for those heads and if these 1932 heads would come in under it?

If you use them it would be a poor match of the water passages and a '36 cylinder block.

There were three versions of the '32 heads, but the difference is o the exterior of the heads. The first version had the part numbers plus LH or RH cast on the head. The second version had the part numbers only. The last version had no part numners on the heads.

All three versions have the same shape and size combustion chambers. The water passages on all three heads are the same shape and size and only match up with '32 cylinder block water passages.

Thanks far the wonderful info as usual. Do the 32 engines require different head gaskets?

All that is available are 40-6051 head gaskets. Ford stopped offering 18-6051 gaskets for service in the 1940s.

40-6051 gaskets will work with '32 V8 heads and cylinder blocks, but some of the water passage holes in the gaskets are oversized.
