What are these brackets for?

Hi guys, I found these in a box of parts in the back of the truck. Where do they go? Thanks!

These look to be the brackets that attach to your light bar on the front (the rounded part) then the bolts slide threw a license plate and you tighten them up to hold it onto the light bar. I attached a picture of the front of mine. you can see the clamps. hope this helps

caveman, If you just use the head of the bolt through the Plate, and insert a flat washer between the gripes, the appearance would be much better, thus hiding the Black bracket.

Those are correct for the 30-1 Model A's. The 1928-9 license brackets look almost like the late Model T license plate clips. J/S has a picture of each style.

Cool thanks guys. Im releived to know they are not important. Now I have to find a 1929 Florida or Michigan plate!
 
I always figured putting a license plate in front of a possibly inadequate radiator was a good way to make it over heat. New radiator, cool winter driving? No problem. Looks better than the old cardboard trick!

I used to think the same, but if the radiator is working like it should then the plate won't matter. When some of my radiator tubes were plugged by rust flakes the top tank would fill and go out the overflow pipe, if I drove faster than about 43 MPH. Removing the plate had no effect on the cooling problem, which was actually more of a flow problem than a cooling problem. It didn't overheat until it lost enough coolant out the overflow pipe.

BTW, I corrected my post above. I had "A" where I meant to put "T" for the clips.
 
Years ago I bought a full toolbag, bag and tools looking essentially new, from some idiot who had removed it from an original '31. I don't want to know what he did with the rest of the car...
Inside with the tools was a loosely assembled pair of '30-31 license brackets, exactly as shown above but absolutely unused, paint intact in areas where it would surely have been damaged by assembly onto a plate and car.
Since then I've wondered whether the toolbag was the standard factory shipping location for license hardware that would be unneeded until the car was actually sold.
The car was quite likely from Maryland...don't know if that would have been a state that did not use a front plate in 1931.
 
Wow, that's great. I have an entire bed full of extra parts in old boxes. Most of this truck looks just like the brackets above; old but in good shape. I guess that's a good thing. It may have been a Florida car??

That does get to heart of the issue. Do you recommend "rodding" the radiator or replacing it?
