what are best-quality original-style points?

who makes/sells the best-quality points for the original Model-A setup? I have seen a lot of comments about 'poor quality' and 'get a good quality set of points!", but I don't know what the difference is, how you tell a 'good' set from a 'bad' set, or where to get them.
I have a set from Snyders now, a set (new in bag) from Snyders several years ago, and both still have the fiber point-block. Does that hold up as well as the "new" style nylon block that is on the 'modern' points?
How about the material or surface of the point-break area itself? All look alike to me, silver and shiny....
Bottomline, would like to know that I have a good set of points in my 'A as I've changed back to the original setup with wire and 'original points', and away from the 'modern' points and 'wireless' lower plate.
thanks!

Barry, For my two cents'-- Walt bratton's sets has been in my distributors with NO problems. This is the "original type" points. I've not used any modern up-dates on ignition systems on my A's. His catalog part # is 17460 and priced at $10.50. He also has a good "point block" also. p.s.- love the profile photo!--Best, Pete.

I have had good look with the original points from Bratton as well. My 31 tudor still has the same points that I got from bratton for 10 years now and I have only needed to re set them twice. I have never had a problem with original points from Snyder. I did have problems with the so called modern points NO MATTER where they come from and that especially means Auto Zone and NAPA. The nylon points blocks were good something else always happened before the nylon block showed any noticable wear

I have had NO problems with the wireless lower plate. The style that is used with original points uses a brass acorn nut that screws onto the points post where it rubs on the lower plate. There is nothing to short or fail, unlike the modern style connection.

I converted my cars to modern points and condensers about 20 years ago using Genuine Ford Parts and have never had to replace them or had problems with them even after thousands of miles of use. I do not know if they are still available from Ford.

"Modern" points also need to be purchased carefully. Garbage electrical parts are now available through main stream parts stores...oft hthere are 2 grades and price levels, the lower level catering to people who like to walk home.
Original is easier to adjust than the 60's type.

Last two set I bought (in the last 5 years) were NOS Ford and I only paid $5 ea.

I have seen NOS Ford selling in the $15 range in the last year.

Try to locate NOS they may not really be too expensive when compared to the cost of other options.

thanks guys. One comment on the 'wireless', when I took my distributor apart to replace with the "old original" system, I did notice the same blackened area where the electrode runs, particularly at the retarded position. I wouldn't have probably noticed it or paid attention except I had just read Tom Endy's comments about problems with his wireless plate and seeing that blackened, 'burned' area... May not have become a problem for me, but I put the Snyders "long wire" lower plate in anyway.
