What am I missing on left service brake?

Understanding service Brake Pedal to cross shaft to left rear brake rod to brake lever to cam shaft and cam to shoes.

brake pedal not stopping the LEFT rear wheel with rod connected to lever!!
With rod disconnected, hand pulling the lever about 2-3" stops the wheel.
With drum off, verified the shoe spreading cam and the shoe adjustment wedge move the shoes.

It appears the RIGHT rear rod only moves a 1/4-1/2" and stops its wheel.

The previous owner has a new adjustment wedge installed...

At a loss as what to do next? Thoughts, Rip

Sounds like the right side is adjusted to far too tight to allow the left side to engage. You need to do a total 4 wheel adjustment. Remember all four wheels engage from the same mechanical lever (the cross shaft), unlike a hydraulic system.

You could have a number of things going on which could be contributing:

1 As another poster stated the wedge may need adjusting ( rod disconnected) first.
2 Brake drum on that side could be way oversize.. or shoes worn and requiring much more travel to get the shoes to do their job
3. worn system ( part of a quality rebuild of above) so associated components need to be inspected and rebuilt to function. roller tracks, pins/rollers, even shoe holes become enlarged that amount to slop in the system.

Yes, a 4-wheel brake adjustment ( following wedge adjustment)

After checking these I think you will find the issue. When the mechanical system is properly restored/rebuilt and with new cast drums your brakes will stop on a dime! Brakes are one of my specialties and most need everything! Keep us posted.
