Welting on a Phaeton

I am assembling my 1929 Phaeton (4 door) after restoring it. Should there be welting under the back panel (between the quarter panels) and on top of the rear body cross member? If there is no welting there may be a rain leak. Maybe I should use caulking?

No, there is no welting under the rear panel of a phaeton. I don't believe Ford put anything under the rear panel, like dum, dum. When I dismanteled my 29 phaeton there was nothing under the rear panel. I guess you could put some friction tape under the panel, but I don't think it is needed.
