Welting installation

My first attempt at installing welting. Is it installed before or after finish painting? Does this hold true for all the welting? Is the roof installed after final painting? Thank you!

I think it kind of depends on what style of car you have. When I restored my 28 coupe, I installed the cowl/gas tank welting before painting the car. The welting between the cowl/gas tank and A pillar should be body color. I installed the black fender welting after the fenders were painted, since both are black. I painted my car after I installed the roof material in case I damaged the painted area installing the top (fairly involved on a special coupe). This are the way I did my car and it worked well for me, but others may do it another way and have good luck. Hope this helps.

most of the time. I paint around the top opening and install the top and molding before painting the body. redo`s are the shits, when ford originally built the bodies the gas tank with the welting was installed before the bodies were painted. there for there is a lot of bare metal that never was painted originally. on the fenders the body was painted in one part of the factory and the fenders in another, and than installed on the production line. there for I say the fender welting was not painted.
