Hey guys new to the forum and had a quick question. I'm 20 years old and always loved flatheads and I was able to score one for free from my grandfather!! And my plan is to tear down soon to start rebuild. Anyway i took the heads off to see what year block I had which is 46-48, and saw canada on heads and turned them over and saw weiand and 400 stamped on the backof them. Sorry for the life story just wanted to tell you guys everything and just wanted info on these heads and the rareness of them? And if I should keep them or get aftermarkets which was my plan. And any tips on the build! Thanks guys

400 is for max valve lift had pair on a276 cid motor in a 48 sedan worked great just not as pretty as finned heads

Keep em . They are real good , set your engine up with the piston & the valves tight to them & unshroud the valve @ open & they will run great . Have them polished if you want them to look real good . I mean the out side !
Welcome to this great site !! Lots of help here !
I am about to have the "GREAT L100" cam available for the "Famous" Flathead real soon .
Good Luck !!!
Cheers
Tony

They are a fine head and to some of us, highly desirable. One additional suggestion, make sure they haven't eroded too much and that the mating surface is flat. Depending on pistons and cam you may not be able to give it much of a cut to true up.

Weiand took (stole?) the spec's from the legendary Denver (Cheater) heads. These heads have a smaller combustion chamber thus increasing compression. They were favoured by those who raced cars and Hot Rodders.

You have some nice 'go-fast' heads. The simple recipe for very early Hot Rodders was; High Comp. heads, Dual/Triple Carbs, Headers. All these things are now back in style.

It's been implied in some of the other posts, but not spelled out for the OP. Some of the race tracks back in the day only allowed stock heads. Ford made aluminum heads in Canada. Weiand made the heads (with hot rod specs) to look like the stock Canadian heads so guys could "cheat". That's why it says Canada on the front and Weiand is hidden behind the water outlet.
