Waterpump Grief.

I am setting up an engine for my '32 Vicky. Motor is '51 Merc flattie. As we live in Florida where summers are HOT the wife wants air conditioning. The motor has the small crank pulley and I want to run the truck water pumps with the foot to mount engine ( not using car pumps) I see all kinds small pulley car pumps and none that are truck with the mounting foot. To complicate things I understand that the GM alternator and Sanden air compressor use small 3/8 belts and one belt will not drive everything even if I can get the small pulley water pumps. Further alignment of all the pulleys may be an issue. What to do.? Sources for pcs ? Do people run 2 pulleys at crankshaft and what is the 2nd pulley? Mount over the cast one ? Thanks

I do not remember the belt arrangement for your engine. However, I used a single wide belt to drive the pumps and a/c compressor and used the second (forward) pulley of the compressor to drive the alternator. I machined the rear groove of the dual compressor pulley to accept the wider belt. My engine type is 59A so you would need to change the water pump pulley from one of your pumps to get the alignment suitable for single belt drive of both pumps. In your original configuration one water pump pulley is probably forward of the other.

Then there is the fan. You will have to decide how to manage it. If you decide to use only an electric fan the fan from a Lincoln, with blades shaped like a medieval weapon, is one of the most powerful I have found. Shop Ebay.

Mine is the same set-up as JWL's. Works great. I am also running a temp controlled elec cooling fan. Chap

With the truck pumps just get a crank pulley from a truck engine and it would all come togetter....
A couple of pics...narrow dual belt is what you have now....what you need is the newer style 8RT pulley that doesn´t have an oilspiral attached to the pulley.

'50-'51 Merc pumps are narrow belt and have the mount tabs similar to truck pumps. The housings are different. The Merc pumps used a U shaped spacer to make up for the difference in mounting heights. Merc pump on the left, truck pump on the right.
