Water temp sender, confused newbie

Among the several things I need to do to get my 40 Coupe running is install the water temperature sending unit in the left head. Both Drake and Mac's list the single post sending unit as right side and the double post as the left side part. My 40 Ford book, and my wiring harness seem to agree that my left head sender should be a single post. Do these two vendors use left and right differently (like as viewed from the front) or am I missing something obvious?
Thanks

Driver's side sender is double post. It a switch that opens when water temp gets over about 210 degrees, which will cause the temp gauge to show full hot. The passenger side sender is the analog sensor that allows more current when cold, which deflects the temperature gauge needle to the cold side. As the water gets hotter the current decreases, causing the gauge needle to rise. The center is about 160 degrees, the 3/4 mark about 180 degrees, and the highest mark about 200 degrees. The needle goes off scale to the right at about 220 degrees.

The reason for two sensors is that the water jackets in the engine block are completely separate, left and right. The only place that the water mingles is in the radiator, and even there, the flow tends to stay divided.

Not sure why any reference would show the single post sender on the driver's side. All Ford and vendor documentation I have show it the correct way.

The 40 temp sender goes in the LH head with a single wire to it. The threaded hole in the RH head for 40 is for the hot water heater shut off valve. The later flatheads had a sender on one side and a simple switch (two wire connections) on the other.

Well at least now I don't feel bad about being confused. I think the vendors list the part in accordance with what Drolston posted, and my car is consistent with what Deuce Roadster posted. I am ordering the single post sender since that is the way my car is wired. Thank you gents.

IF you want confirmation maybe Kube will chime in here. You are doing what is correct for a 40.
By the way, a Barn member TJ lives in Napa too and he is a 40 guy.

If that is Tom, I actually visited him about a week ago. I have known him for many years but hadn't seen him in several years and didn't know he was a Ford guy until recently. His cars are inspiring.
