I put a set of bob drake water pumps on my 40 coupe last sept they are already making noise total chinese junk, who makes decent pumps

I heard skip (who built my coil) rebuilds pumps as well as coils

If you have your original Ford pumps, send them to Skip. If you don't have an original set, find one and send that. 86 the BD pumps. Use the search function here to find Skips contact info.

Usual problem with water pumps, particularly the bushing type, is too much belt tension. It damages the bushings. If you install an alternator, it is best to use ball bearing type pumps, otherwise belt slippage is likely, particularly with a small pulley on the alternator.

I think I am going to order pumps from carpenter today, I believe that they are made here. USA

I don't think so... If you want ball bearing pumps made in the USA I know Fryers makes them, although the raw castings may be coming from off shore, but I would rather have Skip's pumps. Have a set of '35 pumps with 26,000 trouble free miles installed in 2007.

I have a bunch of rebuild-able pumps sitting around. Be glad to send you a pair for the postage, Med priority box is around $15. I have been to Skips shop and I know he has a ton of old pumps. Give him a call if you don't have cores.

Dum question I have noticed you talk about "ba" . What does the "ba" stand for? Thanks Miff Still new to flat heads

Probably the first person that I have heard of having problems with them, mine have been fine, driven almost daily..

Skip.....who?

How does one reach Skip? Does he have a website? I have 2 pumps that need to be rebuilt; I can do them myself or send them out.

Is there any reason not to do them myself?

Skip don't just rebuild the pumps he modifies them to pump almost double the amount of coolant than stock or ANY other pumps available. This in most cases degreases driving engine temperatures 20 to 30 degrees. He has been doing Ford pumps for 15 years or more. Every pump is tested on a water pump test machine for at least 5 minutes before shipping. He has NEVER charged anyone for repairs to the pumps he modified. If you have a problem Skip answers the phone and can help you, who do you get and what is the outcome from other suppliers? You can contact him mornings at
1-941-637-6698 afternoons at 1-941-505-9085 or skip@fordsrus.com Normal turnaround time is a week to 10 days. G.M.

If you want to have water pumps that are a constant problem, then by all means do them yourself, if you want trouble free pumps have Skip Hanney or Fryer make them..
The big secrete to eliminating pump problems is to make sure the fan belt has approx 1" plus of slack when pushed between the gen and pump pulleys.
Another thing most people overlook is to make sure the oil hole through the block, to the pumps is clear. Run a wire through the oil channel prior to installing new pumps.
The pumps with ball bearings may have sealed bearings, then again they may not..

Called and sent Skip an email; just want to make sure that the $212.00 price and address on his website are correct before I send the pumps out.

Good luck getting the pulleys off without cracking at least one of them. I have a pair of new kits that I will let go cheap it you want to try. I also have a pair of cores one of which has a broken pulley (LOL). You can have those for cost of shipping.
