Water pump rebuild

I'm rebuilding a set of 8RT pumps, I have the kit and it comes with a brass slinger, naturally no diagram comes with the kit and the old pumps did not have the slinger. I think it goes on the shaft between the seal and bearing but which way flange out toward seal or flange in against bearing? Thanks Zeke

The slinger I refer to is sitting on the end of pump shaft in photo, should it be pushed on this way or reversed with the flange out ? It would be pushed against the bearing in my mind, again there were none on the pumps I disassembled. Zeke

Don't know if it will help or not, but this is the layout of a '49 Merc. pump showing the location of the slinger.

Parts came from Mac's they did get back to me with a diagram, the flange goes against the bearing. Thanks all, Zeke

They are $27 at Mac's, they had a 15% discount last month on cooling parts. Pumps went together easily. Zeke
