water pump question

I just purchased a 47 ford super deluxe coup with a leaking water pump. The seller gave me brand new pumps with the car. I changed both out and found the pulley sits too close to the block and does not line up with the generator or crank pulley. The distributor sits forward and would probably come in contact with the belt. In researching, I assumed I might have an 8rt engine. The old motor mounts had a C shaped piece of steel that sat on the rubber cushions and the pump foot was bolted to that. The only numbers on the heads is 30125 on the right head and PH63 on the left head. All this leads me to believe the engine is not a 47 but may be a 48 or 49. Can anyone tell me if a 8rt and a 8ba water pump are interchangeable ? They have longer snouts like the old pump I removed.

Don't forget that the 8CM Mercs had the funny water pumps that sat on the "C" shaped perches. DD

The 49-53 8BA, (Ford) and 8CM (Merc) engines are very different from the '48 an earlier engines. If your water pumps have a U shaped extension under the pumps, on top of the motor mounts, you have the '49-51 Merc pumps and motor mounts. The pumps could also be truck pumps with Merc mounts.. I have attached a couple of pix with the Merc type of mounts in a '37 Ford pickup, and one pix of a stock '50 Merc.

I made a mistake on the numbers previously submitted, they were on the old water pumps. The numbers on the heads are EAB8049D with the number 310G on the left head and EAB8049D and the number 360 on the right head. The intake manifold has the following numbers just forward of the carb. 8BA 8RT 6520. All pulleys were for 3/8 belts. The 8rt water pumps I'm finding are for 5/8 belts. I'm going to have to change out the crank pulley to a 5/8 size to complete the set up. So, I guess an 8rt water pump should work fine ?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

EAB is the 1952 & later cylinder head version of the 8BA family. 8RT parts are all truck related. The truck pulley is a larger stamped steel sheave that will hopefully not have clearance problems but should be OK in your year model. The foot on the truck pumps is much lower than the Mercury pumps in previous photos. Merc pumps only had 5/8 sheaves in 1949. They went to twin belt 3/8 system in 1950. You can keep Mercury pumps and run the 3/8 belts or go all truck but you will have to change the generator and crank pulley and maybe the fan if you do. Since I can't see what you have then I can't tell you the easiest way to go but if it is a Merc set up then all you would have to do is overhaul the Merc pumps.
