Water Pump Flow

If the water pump is working properly shouldn't it move the water fast when you look into the radiator? The specs say its pumping 36
+ gallons a minute or thereabouts? I greased the water pump before looking to see that I have a leak-less water-pump and now it's overheating. There is water moving in the radiator when I look but its not moving very fast. I have read the posts on TSP cleaning grease from a radiator.

The pump can only pump the water it gets from the bottom of the radiator, so if the tube station are plugged, it won't pump so much. Check your core.

Ran Vinegar straight for about a week. Flushed a couple of times, filled it and added soda and ran that for a couple of days, repeated the flush, soda and drain. Filled with 50/50 antifreeze and it appears happy. I flushed without putting any of the dirty water back through the radiator when flushing the rust out,Bottom hose both ways with the top hose off and everything diverted that came up. Lots of bits and pieces of rust. Worked for me.

There was a guys at our last National Model A rally who had overheating issues that bugged him for the 1,800 miles he did to get there. Turns out the pump shaft had broken so the fan was turning but not the impeller. I hadn't seen that before!

Yep, see my picture in reply 4 of this link. With the end missing, the fan can easily move forward and go through the radiator.

FWIW:

From your above observations, it appears it is definitely time to:

A. Remove water pump and investigate if impeller is OK and/or rotating as fast as the fan; and,

B. Try to clean the radiator; or, burn up the engine with excessive heat; and/or allow the fan to propel itself through the rear radiator fins.

Best thing it that you noticed problems prior to a possible disaster.
