Water outlet neck install...?

I read somewhere to use the thinnest gasket possible and also to put a paper match on each side just outboard of the mounting holes..

The gasket in my gasket kit is not thin..it is the same as the one I removed...I could easily make a thin gasket if needed..

The old gasket is .034 and the new is .049...

I guess these things are prone to break?

I bought a new repro neck that is the correct length and has the opening for a temp gauge...

Installation suggestions?

I would never use the paper gasket, but have had success with the copper gasket or just using silicone gasket maker and no gasket.

First I machine both surfaces flat with wet/dry paper and something flat. Usually just the water neck needs flattening. Then I use silicon gasket maker. Hasn't failed yet!

OK it's done. I made sure both surfaces were flat and then cleaned them thoroughly..

A thin bead of Ultra copper silicone and it took the torque..no cracks..

Thanks for the help!

I grind the upper outlet flat, Then file off a little more in the center so the torque pressure will be on the outside. I use the stock copper gasket with clear silicone and wipe off the excess that squeezes out.
