ANY IDEAS FELLAS ?
WHATS THIS ?
On the rear of a 38 39 Ford v8 sedan , Looks to be a custom made Or accessory panel going from left to right over the rear bumper brackets, it fills in completely between the rear panel of the car & the bumper all the way across & is contoured to fit neatly. it is secured to the bumper side, with strips of panel steel with holes to utilize the bumper bolts.
on the car body side, 3 flat strips ,spaced evenly are spotwelded on & they drop down and look to have been screwed to the lower rear roll panel.
Topside, looking down, the Panel has a joggle - beaded edge about an inch wide all the way around, and is also folded over evenly ,about 3/16"on the underside.
there are two holes, one at each end of the panel , about 2" in diameter.
it looks like a camping accessory or picnic tray device

Anybody know of what & where these originated.

That’s cool, it may have been and after-market accessory (Pep boys, etc.) to act as a gravel shield however, I have no idea what the holes were used for. It would be interesting to fine some original information about it.

WHERE THESE POSSIBLY JUST FOR TEA & COFFEE CUPS ?
you know the number of times our parents stopped on those road trips when we were nippers.
Still reckon the holes were for tent poles.

I think your right Tub1 ,,,i have seen a few of these on Aussie 40s over the years ,the holes would be good for shade umbrellas at car shows ,,
