Looking for 15 inch wide 5 wheels.I'm told they came on !939 lincolns and possibly some trucks. Thanks call 610-767-5478

Personally I've never heard of, nor seen any, 15" wide-5 wheels before.

Now 16" ones are pretty common. So if you are dead set on 15s, have a set of 16s re-rimmed.

I've never seen any either; however, General tire sold special 15 inch tires, with matching steel rims, all aftermarket. Have seen these for chevies.

No, 33rag wants 15" wheels with ford's late 30's 11" bolt pattern. Not 5" wide, 15" wheels.

Yes, for you rookies that say they didn't make a 15", you are wrong!!!

They did make a 15" diameter wide 5 bolt pattern wheel.

I have a set of 4. Centers are riveted in and some still have the hubcap clips.

Still have never figured out what they came on.

Here's front and rear pics of the item in question.

AND my set of four didn't come off one car. I got 2 of them from Texas, one at a racer auction and the other came on a cace car I bought. So it wasn't just a one off thing for one vehicle.

Well, I'm now a believer! I'd be willing to bet those wheels were on some sort of commercial vehicle. But who really knows anymore.

I have a pair of 16x5 wide-5 on the rear of my racer, it took a lot of my patience in order to acquire them. I finally found a pair on a South Dakota farm. They were factory on 3/4 ton trucks from 1939-42. I would imaging the 15" are harder to get then the 16x5s now.

I have to wish 33Rag the best of luck finding his 15"ers.

This is my 16x5 with a 8.90 tire:

My guess on the wide5X15",, they were made for a race car... In the 50's we used wide five hubs and welded into 15" rims. some $$$ guys had some made with rivets.

My dad had a set of the 15" wide 5's. They were used on Marmon Harrington 4WD's...like this one:

" The car is fitted with 7.00-15 Goodyear blackwalls with mud and snow tread. There is a matching tailgate-mounted spare, with no cover. The hub caps are 1939 standard-style, as used on the Marmon-Herringtons, with 15-inch tires."

Neal,

Looks like you have the answer to what I've been wondering for years. 4WD's. Rare indeed.

AND:

Riveted rims weren't made by oval trackers :confused: . If they were, why would they've put hub cap clips on them? So they could remove them to race :p . All the old flathead racers I've talked to were out scrounging them years ago, just like I am now. If there was a commercial aftermarket source for them, the guys I know in the Carolinas and Georgia would've know about it.
