I am looking for a flathead to replace my 1936 LB engine (mine keeps blowing headgaskets every time I drive it). I would like another one just like it but will consider 1937 - 1953. A mercury engine would also be great. Please email pictures, and description of engine, and what you are asking for it to richardherren@hotmail.com I do not want one that runs hot because mine runs hot all the tine, I do not need another one that runs hot.

I'm not so sure a different engine will solve your hot engine issue. As for the head have you had it shaved? Did you retorque it 3 times after you run it up to temp. for a while each time?

Are your points and timing set proper? Have you had your radiator cleaned lately? Are your spark plug wires good? Is your fuel mixture set right-not to lean?

All of these are a lot cheaper than a good engine. If your engine isn't smoking or pounding then you've already got a good engine.

Good luck ! Let us know if you find something and saved a few hundred dollars.

This engine has been a problem since I bought this car. I have had the radiator recored, the water pumps rebuilt, engine rebuilt, and 3 sets of heads (all milled before I put them on). Every time I have the same problems. I do not think that I have put 200 miles on my car in the last 5 years. I am thinking it is more of a block problem.

I had flushed mine (36 or7) and used detergents and couldn't solve the problem, gasket finally went. I poked into the center bottom water hole between 6&7 and there was 2" of mud in there. All my conventional flushing just dirtied the water, some chunks of insulation and pumpkin seeds. I took the hose to the passages on both sides for a long time flushed out a ton of crud from the mouse nests I had been carrying around for several years. Engine is clean now, still issues but will stay under 195. Do youhave dual temp gauges? I wouldn't go without 2

I have a 42/48 engine that is completely rebuilt with 4" crank and mild cam. I got this with a car I purchased from a friend. He paid $6500 for it several years ago and never ran it. It is going on a engine Dyno next week to make sure all is OK and to break it in. I will then take any reasonable offer for it. If you are interested I will email pictures.
