So I moved my 29 ccpu out the yard so I could get my popup out to take the family camping. when I pulled the A back in I shut the fule off like I normaly do let it run out of fule and got out. went camping all weekend. monday evening around 7:00 pm I changed the exagust fanifold gasket and put some glad rings in and a new exagust pipe to manifold gasket. to get ready for a big event out in these parts (crusin the coast). thinking everything is a go I get in turn the ignition on , O its already on, Crap the battery is probably dead. but I try it anyway , turns over fine so I turn the gas on waight a few pull the choke and hit the starter button . ru ru ru wouldn't start do it again , wouldn't start. so I get out open the hood and start to take the cap off to check if im getting fire. just then my 6 year old says Dad the car is smoking .looked up to see what he was talking about and the coil is puffing smoke like it was a chain smoker. ran to the other side and turned off the battery cut off switch . funny I don't remember turning it on when I got in to start it . CRAP I left it on after pulling it in to go camping . needless to say I burnt the coil, points, and points plate. Ok no biggy. I got this. its tuesday now about 7pm . I have no plate but I got points, so I grab a modern style plate setup I had laying around pull the distributor clean everything change the parts out put it all back together and no spark dame. now Im smoking like the coil . start the trouble shooting process and it turns out the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the bottom plate is melted and shorted . its 11:07 and I have had enough for the day. will change it tomorrow. the moral of this story Dont leave the key and the battery cutout switch on for 4 days .

Not as funny as your fiasco, after driving the Model A for 2 weeks when the Dodge Dakota was rear ended, jumped in the truck & couldn't seem to reach the FUEL VALVE! Bill W. (I.Q.=0)

Trying to always remember to NOT shift into reverse:o. While the Borg-Warner overdrive is engaged is a real PIA too. I have done it a couple of times:(, but have not stripped any gears yet:). Knock-on-wood!

Since we're all spilling our guts, had a friend comes over to see the A. We talk for a long time and get in to start it to pull it back in the garage...nothing. No sound....nothing, so he helps me push it back in.
Next day I go out and it starts right up....turns out (now I remember) I was trying to start it pushing on gas pedal foot rest.
In my defense it was only the 4th time I had ever started an A in over 40 years.

I allways try to buckle the seat belts in the A and my wife tries to use
the turn signal in the modern car (its her job in the A, as the switch is
in front of the passengers seat ).

Additional i, once in a while, (just to console Bill) have a look for fuel valves in
all kind of modern cars....

I always would get discombobulated going between "normal" cars and my early '60's Falcons ( key on the extreme left of the dash ).

During and after college, I was into older MoPars, and would have similar confusion, getting into a modern vehicle, and hunting around the dashboard for the push-buttons for the automatic ******...

My biggest "oops" with the Model A is usually forgetting to turn the fuel back on after a quick stop doing errands - I'll back out of a space, and just get headed out on to the street, and the engine will die... sometimes I can grab the tap and turn the fuel on and recover before she dies completely...

Arriving at your destination & being advised that you have tools and/or parts on your R/H running board! (Or 1/2 can of BEER!) Bill W.

I started my Tudor sedan with the crank one day then drove off .

after 5 miles I heard a clank sound on the road but didn't think what it might be,
till a few miles later then I remembered I hadn't taken the crank out !!!
Had to drive back and find it !!

Mind you that was years ago when I was Young and Foolish !!! Now I'm just Foolish !!

Got her back together .runs better than ever. now lets see howmany door glass I can break trying to put the new ones in.

I drove my A home 175 miles when I bought it. First gassup, I left the original nickle gas cap (nice one too) on the runningboard and lost it. Then on the way home it drove terribly, bounced around on the road, pulled right, etc. When I got home, the BRAND NEW Firestone tires on the front were showing the cords. Checked the alignment, 1 inch toe out. Replaced the tires and realigned and now drives great. It was an expensive drive! I had never driven an A before and was so excited I didn't think through it very well. Oh well! It was the ride of my life!
