Our club, Colonial Virginia Model "A" Ford Club was invited to participate in the Williamsburg Veteran's Tribute Parade. We were requested to provide 10 Model "A" Fords to transport Veterans in the parade. The parade was held at New Town. The tribute was a two day event. The parade was held on Saturday.
Our cars in the parade were owned by veterans so we participated right along with all the veterans. The parade route was just over a mile long. In the parade were the Old Guard, two Army bands, high school band, Williamsburg Fife and Drum Corps, plus marching units from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, National Gurad, Army Reserve, ROTC, Junior ROTC, and the various veterans organizations.
I had the distinct honor of transporting two Marine Corps Iwo Jima veterans. One of the Marines was a Field Wireman that went up Mount Suribachi installing field wire for the first Forward Observers. The other Marine was a Combat Engineer that worked on the air field while it was still under Japanese fire. Also had an Army veteran riding shot gun. The crowd of spectators for this event was huge.
One of the best times I've had with the Model "A". Our club was honored to participate in this tribute to Veterans.
