Vinyl CCPU Sunvisor Blues

I have be reading and re-reading the instructions on how to cover my sunvisor. Boy! They are really hard to understand!

I bought the pre-assembled cover from Bratton's and am now about to make my attempt. I do have some questions:

1. Attached to the underside of the frame are two strips of steel, 5 inches long and slotted for tabs. I have temporarily removed these. How do these play into installing the cover?

2. Are the kits actually usable, or would it be better to cut my own patterns and sew the binding on myself?

Photos of the process would be very helpful!

Thanks, but I have have this already. It still doesn't explain about the two metal strips and how they are attached (before or after cover is on)

I used a LBB kit many years ago and it worked out fine, it's pretty well cooked after all of these years and I plan to use another kit from them. If you are going for show you should make your own out of top material and sew the middle panels as original. There are plenty of photos and discussion on this site and others to show how it should look.

I don't have photos of the process, but keep in mind that you don't want any raw edges of the material showing so use folds accordingly. Also, don't over-pad the visor frame with cotton batting or it will not look right.

The two strips of steel hold the material tight to the under part of the visor frame.

There is a difference between an original frame and a repro.

I agree the instructions for the visors (and seats, tops etc...) are none too good. I would think that if there was somebody that was skilled at covering visors they could make a few bucks selling instructional videos. Actually I'm sort of suprised that the kit suppliers don't do something like this already.
