Can any on tell me if a set of Virginia 1939 plates would be acceptable to DMV on my 39?
I am not sure what the "CH" letters designate.
Thanks
Wick

Not sure what you mean when you said acceptable but in KY (and this probably has nothing to do with your question) I can run my car with a vintage plate attached to car as long as I carry the correct plate.

I am certainly not an expert on the Virginia DMV but judging by the tag you are probably good. My advice would be to take the tags along with your title to your local DMV office and check with them. That tag is just odd enough that I would think it would pass muster.

You have to take them with a title to the DMV to make sure they match the year and are readable.I was told my original painted black and tractor orange should be black and white.A call to Richmond office said any color combination would be OK.Read this, it says restrictions in Va. for antique tags ,most any thing goes, just don't drive to work,it was $50 one time fee .I don't understand the 250 mile rule,I live in central Va. and go over 250 miles I am in another state.Maybe I can't drive to the big show in Penn.https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/forms/dmv289.pdf
