Vintage cars doing WHAT? 2025

Yeah, ....I have never understood the rationale of vintage car enthusiasts driving their vehicles in such conditions. I've observed them doing that for quite a few years, and it always makes me cringe when I watch them. Especially when they are trying to drive up a muddy area and everyone is violently jumping up & down in the cabin in an effort for more traction.

well in a way Brent- is it any different then buying a 20k motocross bike and beating the crap out of it?
happens every day.

These are an alternative option if you want to go muddin’ on the trails.

I could see people in our country doing that with Doodle Bugs or ratty Model T's. But I don't see people with polished restored cars doing it. Of course the cars that are used like this in the UK are not polished restored cars. Just old cars.

If you look on eBay for the UK you do not see cheap old British cars, so they most get traded between friends or were kept in the family. When I was in England I saw a lot of old cars (1930's) being driven on the roads and worked on in garages. The British people seem to have more old cars than here in the US. Here an old car was made in the 1960's or 70's and are all pristine.

To a point I agree with Brent. IF the cars are restored then yeah why would you do that? BUT, how is what they are doing any different than what they did with them in the 20-30's? Same thing, rutted roads, fording creeks, etc. etc. The cars can handle it, we just don't drive like that anymore because we have the roads to support nice easy travel.

Your points are valid in that it is the owner's vehicle to treat them however they choose.

As for this type of treatment, my narrow-minded perspective is probably this way. If back in the era if there were only primitive roads, then the car(s) needed to be subjected to those rough, muddy roads as an everyday way of life. Fast forward some 90-100 years, the roads are better and the cars are much more valuable, ...and so in my mind there really isn't a prudent reason to push the limits or abuse them just because their owners can. Again, I realize it is their vehicles to do with as they wish, but it seems like the owners would have more respect for their vintage vehicles. Likely just where the line is drawn in the sand.

Lots of Austin 7s in hat - an ideal choice with light weight, nimble cars and only 700cc engines (42.7 ci for you Yanks). Another similar rally in NZ is the Irishman Rally but Model As seem to be the car of choice for that. Maybe that is because there is more running and less swimming!
If I had even a running chassis, add some sort of primitive body and I'd be in there in a flash. Great fun, just like what we did as kids.
