fellow members, I need your help! joined the ford barn after purchasing my 41 super deluxe last summer, and asked for help on distributers, and cooling issues, your help was fantastic! all problems solved, and enjoyed the car all summer and fall. now the problem is my friend was over here today, and said there is no vin plate on the firewall!! he said I should have checked this when I bought the car. ( I did not know this ) now what is the procedure for aquiring this plate? is there a way to verify that my title is to this car?? thanks in advance for your help, dennis.

Ford started placing the serial number on the firewall in 1949. Prior to that, they were stamped in three location on the vehicle. The most obvious location is on top of the left frame rail in the vicinity of the front cross member, but even those are sometimes hard to read under years of accumulated dirt, grease, and rust. For more information on serial numbers see http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm

You are looking for something that doesn't exist ! The serial # will be on the frame by the steering sector and on the ****** above the inspection cover . Your friend is misguided on this .

Your DMV will probably want to use the number on the frame since the transmission is easy to change. The number is also two places of the top of the left rail under the body (you need to pull the body to see them). There may be a plate on the firewall with a body number (which is not used to register the car). I am not sure but there may also be a patent data plate, again not used to register the car. 4dFord/SC sent you to the right web site.

Don't worry. That plate on the firewall is NOT used to register your car and does not contain the VIN #. The Phil Vanpelt site shows the locations of VIN# that is used to register your car.

"Phil" VanPelt?????? My mother will be shocked to know she got my name wrong all these years. I better call her now and let her down easy.......... Mac VP
