Vin location?

Is the vin in front of the firewall feet mount or behind it on a model a frame? I have read conflicting reports on this. There is nothing in front of my firewall on the frame and it's not pitted. Should I pull the body and look under it? Trying to get it titled and can't see anything with the body bolted down. Thanks.

Behind it. Generally speaking, on the top of the left rail between the battery's locationa and the front of the firewall. Yes you would need to lift the body and also remove the left body apron & the anti-speak welting.

If you have a car out of Canada you won't find a number on the frame either.Best to take a look first and decide how you want to deal with it.Being close to Canada you stand a bigger chance than others to have a car from there.I am in the seacoast area of N.H. and have had two perfect frames from Canada with no sign of numbers.

vanspeed,
you may be looking in the wrong area! don't give up your hunt..just yet.

this subject has been hashed over many times over the years. in the past, ive asked the question: did some assembly locations stamp at various locations, variations, on the left front rail of the model a..and WHY??
i guess why in anybodys guess. but as to whether there WERE variations...its a FACT they did!
i say this because my early '30 roadsters frame # is stamped towards the front of the frame..ahead of the cowl! my # starts 6 inches in front of the PITMAN ARM hole in the frame.
well the body still has to be raised to get the front fender off..due to how its engineered.
jmg..as to why variationa; probably depended on which day of week; employee skills/adherence to routine work and on/on:)!

Try with this pic!

I have a car built in Canada and there are no numbers on the frame only the engine block. I had to have DMV here in California assign a vin to my vehicle.

So judging by that pic, I would need to pull up my body. There are no fenders or splash aprons on my frame so I can tell there is no number anywhere that is visible now. I will pull up the body, only then will I know if it is from Canada. The whole reason I am doing this is because my motor number is a 1930, and the car is a 29 so I don't want to use the engine number as my title number because obviously the motor has been replaced at some point in it's life. I will let you know. My firewall does have a February 22, 1929 number.

Your tank date is just one day earlier than my 2-23-29 Tudor, so I think you'll find the frame number should be right about the one million area. I lifted the left side of my body, but couldn't find a number, so I'll have to look again when I remove the body.

That is really neat to know Tom, where was your car built?

My 28 Phaeton and 29 Tudor both were assembled at the TWIN CITIES FORD PLANT, which unfortunately is soon to close.

If the driver sits with his feet straight down flat on the floor, you will find the body number about where the left heel would be.

Im thinking mine could have come from Canada, but here in New Zealand, vinning didnt start untill 1932.
I just had mine done, and i had the tag put on the lower firewall.
I know it proberbly wasnt the correct place, but its done now.
