Victoria Australia rumble seat rules

[pooch]

Oz calls a rumble seat a dicky seat but nonetheless...

Was at our biggest swap meet Bendigo on the weekend and there was a very nice 1935 English ford coupe there for sale.

It had a rumble seat (fited with seat belts) and he said that Victoria has banned anyone riding in any rumble seat .

I know Victria has come draconian dumb laws regarding old cars.

Has anyone else heard of this new law or is it a furphy?

What is a furphy? That is a new one to me

I haven't heard that one but that doesn't mean it isn't true. Maybe try checking with Vicroads. That is, if you can find anybody who knows what a dicky seat is!!
This neatly explains the Australian use of "Furphy"

PS Cast into the end of each of these carts was the St Jerome verse:
Good Better Best
Never let it rest
Till your good is better and your better is best

" ... not all their news was reliable and so it was that the word Furphy rapidly became a synonym for suspect information or rumour"

Fake news.

The most draconic restrictions and speed limits were imposed by the 1865 act (the "Red Flag Act"), which required all road locomotives, which included automobiles, to travel at a maximum of 4 mph (6.4 km/h) in the country and 2 mph (3.2 km/h) in the city, as well as requiring a man carrying a red flag to walk in front
