Very Unusual '52 Pickup

When on my endless search for, well, you know ... I stumbled across a very unusual Ford pickup. Story is that only two were made, by Ford, for the state of Texas. The unusual panels appear stamped not cobbled up. I have no other information, but ... that paint sure looks like the original used for the Dept. of Ag or something.

VERY curious and interesting find.

Great truck! It would be nice to do some research on it to verify it was sold to the State of Texas by Ford. It sure appears like it was nicely done. Ya done good finding it, Dennis/Arkansas

I like it.. I have never seen one before. would look great restored. Great find..Good Luck !

"So is this now sittin at Hoops house or what?"

.... aaaaaaahhhhh, no.

Frank, first, I'm not even sure of what it is. I HAVE bought some real pigs in pokes.

However, when I asked if it was for sale, the fellow told me he had been offered $150,000.

.... so the answer to your question is, "or what" because it sure isn't at my house. Thank you for thinking I'm a high roller though.

I'm not saying it is ... or it isn't genuine. I don't know. I've been around some rare cars, and this one does not make me feel tingly all over. Maybe some one on the forum knows about it.

"Been offered $150,000"?! I'd say this was a REM moment-you know, the Rapid Eye Movement stage of sleep when a person is dreaming. It's probably got a rare 454 Ford hemi in it, too!

I have seen extended cab pickups from the '40 & '50 before but never one that was cut into the bed and rear fenders like that, kind a neat.

There was one similar to it on the HAMB a year, maybe 2, ago. But if I remember correctly, it looked more like a true crew cab, corners down to the running boards and the box wasn't cut like this one. Weird, rare stuff. If only they could talk . . . Heck if he was offered $150K & didn't take it, maybe it does.

Hey Vic, What ever happened with that 40 or 41 PU that u had a line on a year or so ago? A plumber or a painter had it. Ken

If he was offered $150k for this and didn't take it, I would say this was where two fools met! I just can not believe anyone would offer that or he would not take it if offered!

That very truck was in the swap area at the turkey rod run in Nov 2008. There were a lot of people looking at it. It had markings like it was for a utility or large company. Had a sign with a 'make offer'. I could have been standing next to the guy that offered the unappreciated amount.

Maybe NOT the same truck. He said they made TWO of them.

(Frank, if you want a second shot at it, I know where it is. Great pix.)

I don’t know what that guy was smokin' but I never got to see the truck. I think it was a figment of his imagination...:(

There have been several similar trucks show up over on the FTE site, and IIRC, one almost exactly like this. None were done by Ford in-house, but were all subcontracted out to body companies like Armbruster and others. The old Hildy's Blue Books that show Ford approved aftermarket equipment contain ads for these companies. Stu
