Verification on Torque tube cap assembly

Need your help verifying if the location of the zerk fitting/grease nipple on 47 Ford clam shell connection at the back of the trans is correct. It looks to me that it cannot be greased in that position, is there a whole on the mount underneath for access, doesn't look to be, or does it have to be flipped over, putting it on the driver side top.

I don't know about the '47 Ford, but I had the same question for my '40 Lincoln Zephyr. When I was putting the transmission back in it looked like the zerk on the lower right side would be inaccessible, but when it was finally installed on the lower right side, I found clearance between the frame crossmember and the rear mount for the grease gun to reach the zerk. If you put it on top, you'll have to pull the transmission cover to grease it.

The fitting on all have have ever worked on is on the passenger side near the top. It is a 45 or 90 degree fitting faceing down and slightly toward the center of the car and is no problem greasing from the bottom of the car. G.M.

The fitting goes to the passengers side but near the bottom, not the top. It is about 4 o'clock looking at it from the rear end.
Yes, it must be an angle fitting.
I have put some on a half turn off so it is at about 10 o'clock.
I then hole sawed a hole in the floorboard so the owner could grease it himself just by lifting the floormat. I just did it last month on a '36.
They were all the same from '32 through '48. Fords and Mercs.- on the right side.

With the fitting on the bottom it's hard to get the grease gun on it because it is too near the bottom of the frame. On the right side near the top you can see it and the grease gun go's right on. G.M.

After thinking about the fitting location it is only going to be in one location either top or bottom it can't be changed. All I know it is on the right and can be reached from the bottom. G.M.

Right GM, the thing only bolts on two ways. Not four. It will not go on in 1/4 turns.
As I said, I just did one a half turn off which left the fitting at the top left.

Thanks all, I figure I will leave it on where it is at, and my guess is someone put in a straight type zerk instead of a 45 or a 90 degree so it is servicable, so I will change that to and put that issue to bed. From the looks of it not sure if there is enough room to unscrew the zerk to remove.

I was looking for a part this afternoon and there was one of the split housings in the box. The zerk fitting is one the right side at the bottom as you said. The split housing could be put on so the fitting was on the upper left. It is easy to grease where it is. I think you could get the fitting out with a stubby wrench. G.M.

The original one-piece cap on 32-34's (which were installed on the tube before
the front bell was welded on and therefore which cannot be removed except by cutting it off) were made with a grease fitting hole AND a "lug" for the ground cable. The cap was installed so that the ground lug was on the upper LH (driver side) and the grease fitting on the lower RH. I have always assumed that the 35+ two-piece had the grease fitting oriented the same way?

BTW, the fitting was not exactly for "grease" but was for some concoction that
had some kind of oil and soda soap and maybe some other stuff that was pumped in (and then probably leaked out...) that would get tossed around and
then drip back onto the u-joint when everything came to a stop... hopefully...

GM, I know I can get a wrench on it, what I mean is that they maybe more threads to undo than there is room between the mount and the clam shell assembly. I suppose I could undo the two mount bolts and try to raise it a hair with a floor jack, but something tells me not a wise thing to do, because of the shaft and everything else.
