I just finish waxing my 1930 pickup and my 17 year old son drives my F150 out to the barn to get gas money, circles the Model A and clips the rear fender. It was in an open area. You would think he would of taken a wide birth around it. It was hard to get upset with him, he was instantly in tears knowing how much the truck means to me. I took off the tire and got out the body hammers and we removed the dent the best we could. I am teaching him how to drive it, hopefully this will make him more careful with it when he takes it out on his own.

Several years ago, my brother was backing my dads Corvair out of storage and made a similar manuver with similar results. It too, was a tense moment. Perhaps your newer truck was jealous?

That’s funny, last night when I put the Model A in the barn, I patted her and said “You did have a bad day didn’t you”. My lesson is, from now on I will make sure the bigger, bully truck stays away from her.

Without getting mad, which you didn't, you could of handed the hammer and dollies to your son and just quietly suggest that it's his turn to fix it. Create a great father/son bonding moment from a small accident.

Fifteen years ago when my grandson was five he dropped a piece of wood he was "making an airplane" out of. It scratched the freshly painted, freshly installed rear fender. The look on his face (and I'm sure mine) told me everything he felt. The scratch is still there and I have no plans to ever fix it.

Keep the kid away from cars till he learns to drive from a responsible race driver.
He shouldn't need to get gas money from you. He is way past the age of getting job to maintain a car.
