vega steering in 36

Does anyone make a adapter to bolt to the original mount on a 36 so I don't have to chisel the rivets of ? I want a bolt on for a Vega or upgrade to steering in my '36 ???

What is involved in changing my '36 Ford steering gear box, worm/sector, to a '37-40 worm/roller ??

Centre punch and drill out in steps. Then tap the remaining rivet out with a punch. Way easier and less skinned knuckles.

Pete and Jakes makes the plate to mount the vega box to your frame.

Uses the original rivet holes and you need to add one.

I did this to mine as my steering box was shot. According to Jerry Stover owner of P&J the 39 Ford built by Pete C has a vega box and ran a ton of miles with no issues.

I kept my original column just cut the end off used the inside 3/4 rod to attach to the universal; welded and pinned.
you can use the upper bushing on the bottom as a bushing to center the shaft in the column but I used a bearing with a shaft collar on the end to hold the bearing in place,

We did a conversion here for a customer on a left hand drive we used a 1940 box pressed out the steering shaft as its 49" long as apposed to 47 I just laid my box on his and drilled the top hole it s about 3/8 difference ,the customer went home and fitted it , no problems no riveting . A friend of mine wanted to up grade his 35 to a 39 box I tried to talk him out of cutting the rivets on the plate but to no avail .I called around later and got a blank stare , the question was how to re rivet the the plate in ,its not easy ..Its your choice its even harder when the motors in ,
I think the adapter plate was brought out later to lower the box away from heat . Ford lost at Indianapolis due to heat locked steering, also lowering affects the floor board and cowl, you need to shim the tube to box as well .
