Here's our set.

i'm slightly surprised "fart" passed muster...in fact i suspect that it was an oversight in the programming caused by it's concatenation with the letters "2OLD".

why? because you know that every mother in the state, after her ten-year-old son see's it, will be forced to explain why HE can't even say it when it can be displayed on a license plate.

...and you just know the convict had to be smirking as he pounded out that plate.

Isn't there worse language ten year olds see and hear in the movies and on TV than what our license plate truthfully describes when wifey and I are riding around in her Town Car?

Last I read, (several decades ago) When the WV State Prison closed (1990's) and became a haunted attraction, Alabama made WV license plates. It's all done by computer. I suppose a inmate/con carrys the boxes of plates.

I'll have to do some checking, to see how and who actually now makes WV license plates. It's probably changed since I read the state of Alabama was making WV licens plates.

I do know WV offers more types of vehicle license plates than any other state.

it was a light-hearted comment WRT exasperated mothers, discipline, and young boys fascination with adult(ish) language...that's all.

don't take it personally...you old fart! haha

Are you sure? I thought Florida was the leader with over 120 different types of license plates.

"This" is what the WV DMV sez abour how many different license plates is offered.
West Virginia offers over 100 different license plate designs, ranging from the standard "Wild, Wonderful" tag to dozens of military, collegiate, and cause-based specialty plates.

So you may be correct, with Florida's percise 120 different types of plates, to WV's "over a 100".

Y'know, you are correct in your statement of teh inmate/con "smirking" when he "pounded out that plate". There is even a "you tube video" showing the process. (I don't know how to post it on here)

AI Overview West Virginia's vehicle license plates are manufactured by inmates working through West Virginia Correctional Industries. The physical production takes place at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex, in Fayette County.

i assumed as much...

but i'm figuring that even an overzealous cop would find it difficult to start something over an aluminum vs a steel license plate on a septuagenarian's octogenarian car. or maybe i just like living on the edge. IDK

Well you can take the chance, but repo a plate can cause you some big trouble. DMV wants to examine the plates submitted to them be steel and exact size. If you ever got stopped your car could be towed to a tow yard and held until there is an ID verification (your stamped frame number, etc). The fees for towing and the fees for storage in the tow yard can amount to a lot of money. The citation for the "phony" plate could also be expensive. The cost of a real set of plates for your car would be a LOT less than the costs that I have mentioned.

Don't count on it. The government bureaucracy knows nothing about your age or situation and doesn't care. No matter what, you really don't want to get tangled up in it.

Your "overzealous/big ego" Blue Line Gang comment is very true!

Long true story happened right around early Y2-K!

Freshley married, military discharged officer, (LT, Capt) he and wife wanted to buy a 1960's aluminum multi carb Corvette. Corvette cost was more than they could come up with. Salesman went through COPO and spected out a extremely HD HT with almost the same Corvette motor/trans combo.

Life and family proceded on with 3 kids always excited to "ride around" in Mom/Dad's "noisy hot rod". Miles started piling up high pereformance parts started wearing out. As kids became teenagers, car wasn't as fun to drive anymore. Instead of "trading" the COPO ordered car off for a more family friendly Station Wagon, Mom/Pop just shoved their wedding car off in the corner of the garage and almost forgot about it. You know, "out of sight, out of mind".

After several decades the kids secretly went together and decided to "restore" and present the car for their parent's 50th wedding. The car was so well hidden/buried mom/dad didn't even notice it was missing.

Well known restoration shop agreeded to preform the total restoration, then do a public presentation. After shop got the car all torn down, sorted out, it was discovered that car was a "forgotton" COPO issue. Meaning. Higher level of restortation.

After presentation, duplicate "then and now" pictures made. A 3 volumn photo alblum contained the car's history straight from day 1 order to restortation and presentation was carried in the trunk.

Several years later, Mom/Pop were either going to or comming from a car show. "Over zealious Blue Line Gang member" "Ran" the Year Of Manifactior license plate through DMV-NCIC! Question. What suspicion did the Blue Line Gang Member have to justiify running a decades old plate on a decades old vehicle!? Well, here is where the feces hit the fan so to speak!

The ego driven gang member got the restored YOM plate's numbers and letters backwards. Someone quoted the number wrong, or someone received the plate number wrong!

The number that got recorded, turned out to be a decades old unsolved crime! INSTEAD of investigating, GUNS. Tazers, car ramed off the road. Mom POP were beat up, arrested, spent the nigh in jail, then hospital!

Car was impounded as it was pulled over. While spending close to 5 YEARS in impound ALL those ORIGNAL peformance parts statred to vanish! Car was sideswiped also while in impound.

5 YEARS worth of lawyers fees on the mom, Pop died, and the three kids, just about financially ruined them! They ALL had to move to lesser housing. Typical police tatic. Try to extend the trial to "financially break" defendant.

What I heard, that after 5 years Mom got the car body (what was left of it) back and a 5 digit settelemnt.

The YOM plate I have on our '32 I took to the DMV right after I bought it on ebay, to make sure there were NO wants or warrants. After I had the plate "restored" I took it back to the DMV and had them mix up the numbers a little bit, to make sure something like that won't happen to wifey and I!

Unfortunately, I have little trouble believing this story, based on personal experience.

'Try to extend the trial to "financially break" defendant.' is a common tactic. They have complete control of the court schedule, and only when they've gone to ridiculous lengths will the judges get involved and even consider a protest. And if better be by a lawyer; woe to the individual who tries to go "pro se". And every "lawyer visit" is a thousand bucks these days. Don't think about bringing in some "Hot Shot" lawyer from out of town; at the prices those guys charge, you can run up $50,000 in legal fees before you know it. All for a minor traffic matter.

Take my word for it : DO NOT get caught up in the court system.

Your off-topic quote incorrectly tagged a retired LEO who made no such comment, but rather, advised on best practice to stay out of trouble. Coincidentally, LEOs are enthusiastic flathead Ford fans also.

I suppose talking about a Corvette on a Early Ford V-8 site is kinta off topic. I'll agree with you there.

Wonder what the Corvette people thought and commented about the early '70's Corvette with the "professionaly installed" early supercharged Flat Head Ford/Merc motor!? The swap was that good and detailed, that Flat Head looked "factory"!

There was a local guy here that took a later almost new '70's Corvette, (The only way I can tell early from late '70's Corvettes is the bumpers. Early had chrome bumpers, late had plastic bumpers) and a VERY low milage 5.7 GM Diesel motor they came out with in late '70's PU's. Swapped that 350 Diesel motor into that Corvette. A good running '51 Henry J or Nash Rambler could out run it! But, is was one hell of a conversation piece! Plus it stunk!

Wonder what the Corvette people thought and said when they fould out a '78-9 Dodge PU could out perform their beloved cars!?

Isn't that was what Henry-Edsel Ford's original intentions were? Build/design a mass selling car that would later in life accept Shiver-lay motors? I think that there are more Model A's, '32-'48 Fords with Corvette motors than there are Corvettes! I read that back in the '70's-'80's there were more '32 Fords registered in the state of California than Henry-Edsel ever made!

Are you bragging or complaining, about the "retired" Blue Line Gang members, and their fondness of the unmistakeable Flat Head start and run sounds?

Alan, I know you and I don't always agree, but there does seem to be a sense of mutual respect.
This is one of those times when we do agree.
That diatribe about the couple with their restored car, etc. and their experience, well, I tend to recall there are at minimum three sides to every story. It was quite apparent the way that particular story was told shows a definite bias. That bias makes me doubt much of the story.
I'm guessing that like you, the entire post was not truly related to the original post.
