Re: I’m so vain= Carly Simon

I wonder if I will ever see someone that might recognize this as I never get too far from home. Heck, I’ve only driven it from the trailer to the shop so far. LOL

Re: I’m so vain= Carly Simon

I have a brother who has a '67 GTO convertible, red with white top & interior. The plate reads: SO VAIN. I guess he is a little.

Have had this on on the car since 1987.
Only one in State of FL.

Do the vanity plates if you want, and your local authorities OK it. I have original '33 YOM plates. (my car photo taken before I had the YOM plates.)

I was able to get this plate. Idea for this came from someone here on FordBarn who called his car a "flatrod".

Car now sold. New owner told me he was able to get the same vanity plate in his state.

i bought my car with what looks like an original, slightly oversized, 1941 California plate. the car is registered with that plate number.

it's, IMO, was an eyesore due to it's condition, so i bought a copy of it from some website that will make a plate with just about any combination of number and letters you want. so now i've got a brand new, slightly oversized, reproduction 1941 California plate. :)

...much, much better.

Huey, your original YOM California plate might be restored correctly, but your reproduction plate is not now and never could become legal in California.
DMV specifies: "...officially manufactured California license plates..."
As many citizens have at one time or another been confronted by an overzealous law enforcement officer, this small detail can easily become the start of a very bad day for you.

I had this vanity plate when i originally got my car……it was my first antique car and I was surprised at how people followed so close and would do anything to get in front of me. I thought the plate would help them understand……it didn’t. I found a set of YOM plates and use those and gave one of the VP plates to Walt. He had some on his shop wall so I figured that was a good place for it.
Now…….concerning the legality of the YOM plates like Alan mentioned….I “heard” that if you have your vehicle registered with “Antique Vehicle” plates you can run YOM plates in Maine…….if I ever get pulled over …..I let you know how I make out!……..Mark

i assumed as much...

but i'm figuring that even an overzealous cop would find it difficult to start something over an aluminum vs a steel license plate on a septuagenarian's octogenarian car. or maybe i just like living on the edge. IDK

So, when we get to a certain age, we get to choose what rules to follow? Interesting.

A classic oldie by Ricky Nelson from 1959 and also a reminder to "enjoy it while you can".

For your sake, I hope you never find out how much an overzealous cop is capable of doing with no difficulty at all.
Given that your aluminum plate is not credible as a YOM, it wouldn't pass the scrutiny of any cop, let alone one who has reason to "start something".
There is a difference between using a plate (on the front bumper) given out to V8 Club National Meet participants and a plate that pretends to be official.
