Well I got the car ready to go packed up and we were off on Fri. morning. 125 miles out she started knocking and rocking so we shut here down and called AAA. She actually went home faster than she got to were she broke.
Went home and threw everything in the Toyota and continued on outr trip. We arrived had a great time and learned a lot. I met some great people including several Ford Barners. Of which Tacoma Bob helped me spend much valuable cash at the MAFCA table. Thanks Bob it will come in handy.
Anyhow, Got home dropped the pan and low and behold the #4 rod shims had come out and were in the pan. Great reshimmed all rods and put the pan back up and fired her up. Knock, knock, smooth, smooth, knock, knock-shut down. Tear down the engine and rods all fine, took head off to see if a piston is holed out. Nope, she managed to suck a valve seat:eek: into #2. So now I get to build up my first motor::D:(. I wasn't planning on doing this for another year or so. Oh well, at least I am not as bad off as the guy from Mass who lost three engines just getting there:eek::eek::eek:. I am posting some convention pics as well.

That is one very nice looking Phone Truck ! Hope it did well in Fine Point judging:confused: Had a set of orginial restored Schrader valve stems she bought from me... Did not find a horse head in my bed yet. L.O.L:D

Mike..........We enjoyed your company along with your Dad at the pizza feed. It's folks like you that keep me coming back to these events. You understated your car. The photos reveal drop dead gorgeous. Get that garage going Buddy and hope to hook up again. PS keep buying those reference books.

I have a question about your failed valve seat. From the pieces in the cylinder, can you tell if the seat was sintered metal, cast stellite, or a machined steel type? What was the depth of the seat? That would be dimension "h" in this drawing:

MikeK,

We actually did not rotate the valve up after we figured out what happened. we just saw the valve seat gone and stared dumbfounded at each other. Dad doesn't even remember having valve seats put in that block. So we just put the head on and other parts in boxes and then went inside. This just sped up my plans a bit.
I just pulled the spare block/crank and cam out to get rebuilt. The block is a bit on the rough side, the crank and cam seem to be pretty good.
