On my way home from this years new england meet in sturbrige mass. was about 120 miles into a 150 mile trip. I had just run up route 30 vt. to Bromley mountain and had no problem after cresting the hill on a long downhill run into manchester I let her run up in speed [about 60 mph I guess, speedo not working] which is something I never do and around 3/4 the way down developed a Tapping noise.... It ran fine the rest of the way home with the exception of this newly acquired "TAPPING" sound at any speed. When I got home checked oil and it was down about 1/2 qt which is normal for a long [150+] drive as the engine has some blowby when working a steep grade. Tried listening with a country stethscope [ soild piece of steel] and bottom end sounds OK, I believe it is in the valve train, it still runs fine, what should I look for to check out the noise ie: valve spring, tappet etc.I know the engine probably needs a freshing but was hoping to do that in winter of 2011-12 as time and budget allow.Any advice of where to look first will help... bobbycoke
